Compressed air: a growing market

The demand for compressed air is growing rapidly across a vast array of applications. Stationary and portable compressors are available. They are categorised according to their lubrication method – oil or oil-free – which depends largely on the application.

Oil-free air compressors produce contaminant-free air and are used in the fast-growing pharmaceutical, food & beverage and electronics assembly industries, as well as other sectors. Portable compressors are mainly used in mining and construction activities as a reliable power source for pneumatic machines and tools. They are popular because of their convenience, easy transport and handling and relatively low maintenance.

Air compressors: specific requirements

Recticel works closely with air compressor manufacturers to design solutions that are tailored exactly to market needs. In general, air compressors must be built to withstand heavy loads for long periods of time, vibration between moving parts, sustained heat generation, noise, emissions and damage from environmental factors, such as dust and rain.

Other important design considerations include different noise frequencies generated by variable speed drives, the continual reduction of the compressor footprint and the demand for a compact design without sacrificing easy inspection and maintenance. Compressors also need to comply with fire regulations.

CANOPY AIR INLET/OUTLET

Requirements

ACOUSTIC MATERIAL
• High NRC (Noise Reduction Coefficient)
• Incorporated adhesive eliminates the need for weld pins, resulting in faster, cheaper installation
• Available in plates and converted parts
• Product can be delivered in kits for each model, facilitating the canopy assembly process
• Available in various materials that comply with different fire standards

FILTERS
• Prevent water, dust, and sand from entering the compressor
• Minimum effect on air inlet pressure, guaranteeing efficiency

DISCHARGE AIR

Requirements

FILTERS
• Filter removes the liquids from the air flow so that they are not entrained back into the clean air and carried downstream.
• The “wet” air flows through the open-celled demister foam, and the very small droplets merge together (coalesce) and separate due to gravity.

Applications

Filter (removes oil, dust, etc. from the discharged air)
Dryer demister (removes water from the discharged air)

SEALING STRIPS
• Prevent noise passing through door frames
• Prevent water, dust and sand from entering the compressor
